Radstadt

The region around the today’s city of Radstadt was already inhabited in Celtic times.

Then the Romans settled here and built important Roman roads which led from the south (Aquileia) to the north (Juvavum, the Roman site of the later city of Salzburg).

In the 7th century after Christ, the Bavarians conquered the land and founded the city of Radstadt.

Thanks to its strategically important location, the city always played a great role and was awarded a number of privileges and rights.

In January 1459, the famous musician, composer and organist Paul Hofhaimer was born here.

Today, the region is well known as a hiking paradise in the summer and a popular skiing resort in the winter.
